CPD FAQs

QLD CPD

‎Are there CPD requirements for Real Estate in Qld?

Yes. From 6 June 2025, the Office of Fair Trading (OFT) requires all licensed agents and certificate holders in Queensland to complete approved CPD training annually. This helps ensure professionals stay updated on legislation, ethics, and industry developments.

Who needs to complete CPD in Queensland?

All professionals working in the real estate industry who hold a current licence or registration certificate must complete Continuing Professional Development (CPD).

It is important to note that CPD regulations are already in place in NSW and ACT.

This includes:
   • Residential and commercial sales agents.
   • Residential and commercial property managers
   • Buyer's agents
   • Auctioneers
   • Business brokers
   • Resident letting agents

When do I need to start doing CPD?

For real estate professionals already attending training and events, the key change is the need to retain evidence of completed courses. From the anniversary of your licence or certificate issue date, you must complete at least two OFT-approved CPD modules each year. For example, if your anniversary date is 1 August, you’ll need to start recording your CPD activity from that date.

What are the annual CPD requirements?

You must complete:
   • Two approved CPD sessions:
   • One Type 1 CPD session and one Type 2 CPD session, or
   • Two Type 1 CPD sessions

The OFT considers 2–3 hours for each compulsory session sufficient.

Is there a CPD calculator?

Is there a difference between Type 1 CPD and Type 2 CPD?

Type 1 sessions focus on strengthening core professional skills. These sessions include either:

An accredited unit of competency delivered by a registered training organisation. There are a number of known RTO's who can deliver these sessions and are already approved.

An approved, shortened ‘CPD version’ of such a unit.

Type 2 CPD targets service quality, consumer outcomes, and professional standards—enhancing communication, negotiation, and client service across sales, property management, and leasing.

Do you have example of approved sessions?

Yes, follow the link to OFT where it displays a number of approved Type 1 and Type2 sessions.

Who is approved to provide the training?

Registered Training Organisations are approved to deliver the training under set conditions. We will aim to provide a full list to view these providers.

What tools are available to help track CPD activities?

You can download the Recruit RE app and have access to your very own Career Passport for FREE. Not only can you store your CPD, registration certificate and Licences, but you can also securely share these qualifications with your employer via an employer code. The easiest way to keep everyone in the industry compliant.

Are there any exemptions from CPD?

Yes. The Office of Fair Trading recognises exceptional circumstances and provides exemptions in specific cases:
   • Within 12 months of initial licence/certificate issue
   • If your licence or registration is deactivated for most of the year
   • For affordable housing or business letting limited licences
   • For public sector agents or government officials under the Property Occupations Act 2024

More details on exceptional circumstances can be found through the OFT.

How do you lodge your CPD training?

CPD providers must provide you with proof of completion, such as a certificate or statement of attainment. You must keep the proof-of-completion document for 5 years and produce it to Office of Fair Trading (OFT) inspectors on request.

Why does CPD matter to you?

CPD is more than a compliance requirement—it adds real value by:
   • Keeping you current with legislative changes
   • Enhancing the quality of your service
   • Improving client satisfaction
   • Supporting career growth
   • Strengthening trust and professionalism in the Queensland property sector

These updates align Queensland with national standards and aim to deliver better outcomes for consumers.
